A locally owned gym in Federal Hill known for its club-like atmosphere and high-intensity workouts is opening a second location in Towson this summer.
Knockout Fitness will open in a two-story space at 321 York Rd. near Towson University as the boxing and fitness studio looks to attract new millennial clientele and appease its existing members who live in the county.
Brothers and boxing trainers Chris and Jason Nissley opened Knockout Fitness in the South Baltimore neighborhood in 2012, specializing in group fitness classes, personal training and advanced boxing. The gym provides something different for individuals looking for a more exciting workout experience with LED lighting, special effects, a club-like sound system, video projections and graffiti-covered walls.
The new location will also feature a boxing ring.
“We noticed there were a lack of specialty gyms in Baltimore County, so we have had our eye on Towson for a while,” co-owner Chris Nissley said in a statement. “The student population is a huge draw for us, as well as the new mixed-use developments.”
The new 9,750-square-foot space — double the size of Knockout Fitness’ Federal Hill location — will include an upstairs and downstairs “fight club” space, which is what the gym calls its classes. It’s located in a commercial building sandwiched between the renovated Towson Commons and the upcoming Towson Row development. Another project, called Circle East, is also underway less than a mile north.
